International Geodetic Student Meeting (IGSM)

The International Geodetic Student Meeting (IGSM) is an annual gathering of students from universities around the world who study geodesy, geomatics, and related sciences. Since its first edition in 1988, the meeting has provided a platform for:

  • Academic exchange through lectures, workshops, poster sessions, and technical excursions.
  • International networking between students, alumni, and industry representatives.
  • Cultural immersion, as each host country showcases its traditions, cities, and way of life.

Every year, IGSM is hosted by a different city, ensuring diversity and new perspectives. Over the past decades, meetings have taken place across Europe and beyond — from Munich, Valencia, and Helsinki, to Istanbul, Jaén, and Rabat. Each IGSM combines scientific exchange with social and cultural programs, creating a truly unique experience for both students and partners.

International Geodetic Student Organisation (IGSO)

The International Geodetic Student Organisation (IGSO) is the umbrella body behind IGSM. It was formally founded in 1991 in Delft, the Netherlands, after several successful IGSM editions had shown the need for a permanent structure.
As a non-profit, student-run organisation, IGSO unites local geodetic student associations and represents students from over 100 universities in more than 35 countries. Its goals are to:

  • Support the organization of the annual IGSM.
  • Promote collaboration and friendship between geodesy students worldwide.
  • Provide a link between academia, research, and the geospatial industry.

Through IGSM and IGSO, students not only broaden their scientific knowledge but also build an international professional network that lasts well beyond their studies.
